Today’s holiday feels a bit inside-baseball to me—that is, not the sort of thing your average person on the street would particularly care about, let alone care to celebrate. But I have no doubt that you are above average, so here goes. December 7 is International Civil Aviation Day, and has been since 1996, when it was proclaimed to be so by the United Nations General Assembly. This date commemorates the signing of the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation in 1944, which (to make a long story short) lays out rules and principles that govern air travel between countries. That is quite important, of course, yet something most of us never think about.
