
Most of the “holidays” we cover here are just for fun—they’re often silly, and sometimes downright frivolous. But World Mental Health Day, observed every year on October 10, is no laughing matter. Today we emphasize the importance of mental heath awareness and education; the 2018 theme is Young People and Mental Health in a Changing World. If you have concerns about your own mental health, talk to a professional. Brains are subject to malfunction just like any other body part, and their fantastic complexity means that symptoms may be subtle or ambiguous. There’s no shame (or, I should say, there should be no shame) in seeking appropriate maintenance for your cranial supercomputer, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
