On July 27 we celebrated System Administrator Appreciation Day. October 3 is called Techies Day, and it’s ostensibly about the same thing—appreciating the techies in your life—whether or not they’re actual paid IT personnel. (Historically, this observance was meant for a somewhat different purpose: to encourage high school students to pursue careers in technology. I guess it worked.) Lots of techies, including yours truly, have careers that go beyond the traditional scope of computer geeks (or perhaps work in an entirely unrelated field). But remember: we’d all be lost without techies. So buy your favorite geek a donut, drink, or other goodie today. They deserve it!
