National Voter Registration Day

Today, September 25, is National Voter Registration Day in the United States, because it’s just six weeks from Election Day. If you aren’t already registered to vote, stop what you’re doing right now and register. In most states, you can even register to vote online. And if you think you’re already registered, you should double-check, because even registered voters are frequently purged for any of numerous bad reasons. (You can use the same site to locate your polling place.) I can’t overstate the importance of everyone voting, especially this year. Big, big things are at stake, and don’t let anyone tell you that your vote doesn’t matter. It does. Elections have been won or lost by one vote! And sure, voting for members of Congress is on everyone’s mind this year, but there are also tons of important state and local votes going on—and those can make an enormous difference too.
