Few foods are more quintessentially American than fried chicken, and yet, apparently, this method of chicken preparation originated in Scotland and the contribution of the New World was the seasonings (11 herbs and spices, or so I’ve heard). I don’t know if restaurants in Scotland are doing anything special today, but many U.S. restaurants with a chicken focus are offering discounts on July 6 for National Fried Chicken Day. Don’t forget the biscuits.
