I presume that whoever came up with the idea of calling June 27 National Sunglasses Day was primarily interested in selling sunglasses. You may, of course, buy sunglasses today if that seems interesting to you. I, however, am going to treat this as an opportunity for a PSA: protect your eyes from the harmful effects of the sun by wearing the sunglasses you already have when you go outside. Even if it’s not especially sunny. (Make sure your sunglasses block UVA and UVB light, obviously!) If you wear glasses, you can do what I did and get Transitions lenses, which are clear indoors and dark outside. If you’re the sort of person who wears sunglasses only to look stylish or to disguise your identity, well…I guess you don’t need a special day of the year to remind you of that, do you?
